HELLO,
I NEED SOME ADVICE ON HOW TO REPAIR A OUTDOOR FIREPLACE.THE BASE OF THE FIREPLACE HAD CERAMIC TILE ON IT THAT CRACKED AND I WAN'T TO REPLACE.ALSO ON THE FRONT OF IT.MY QUESTIONS ARE:
CAN I USE CEMENT WONDERBOARD AS A NEW UNDERLAYMENT AND WHAT TYPE OF CEMENT BASED THIN SET SHOULD I USE TO APPLY THE TILE FOR OPTIMAL HEAT RESISTANCE.ALSO I SHOLUD NOTE THAT THE IS OUTSIDE THE FIREBOX NOTHING AS TO REPAIRED ON THE INSIDE.
I AM ALSO DOWNLOADING PICS OF MY FIREPLACE,PLEASE NOTE THE UNDERLAYMENT THAT IS THERE NOW.IT LOOKS LIKE HARDIBACKER BOARD ON THE FRONT AND THE BASE LOOKS LIKE THINSET. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

You need to use a cement board underlayment that is rated for exterior applications. Check the manufacturers specifications for products that are available in your area.
Hardie underlayment is not recommended for exterior applications so if that's whats on there then it needs to be removed.

Each manufacturer of thinsets has products that are rated for exterior use. You need to check whats available in your area and refer to their material data sheets to get actual product details on which thinset and or additive is best for the intended application.
