Description
This is the bathroom remodel by contractor #1... a disaster. I plan on hiring another contractor, starting over and posting his/her progress.

Question: why you hired contractor #1? Is he licensed? experienced? Did he give you cheaper price? Did he agree start renovation next day?
Thanks.

Make sure to tell him to come and see the photos of his workmanship.
I look forward to seeing the work of your next contractor.
Good luck.

I had a licensed plumber do the shower pan and plumbing. That went well and on schedule. The tile guy was not licensed as such. He had the highest bid and was recommended by a friend. I showed him the tile, told him what I wanted and he said, "no problem." He may have had experience with ceramic, but this was all glass and he butchered it. The shower pan was properly pitched, (I read about that here and used a level) but the tile guy put screws through the liner and built the curb wrong. He also installed the backer board wrong. I would not have know about that except for this forum. I have had three licensed tile contractors with an average of 20 years experience tell me I do not need to waterproof the Durock. I now have one who is at least willing to look at doing a Kerdi shower. I do not know why this is so difficult, when they sell it at Home Depot. But it is now 2 months that I am living at a friend's house without a bathroom... I sent him the link to this forum and will not accept anything less.

PS.... I also had a tile salesman tell me today that I should not expect a bathroom to last more than 5 to 12 years. I am in South Florida, so maybe that explains it. I bought green tile and the order says "almond" so I have to make a call tomorrow and follow up with the tile company. It was unbelievable... they did not know (or were to lazy to look up the tile manufacturer, so now I have to research that myself. By the way, it was the largest tile vendor down here.
