Here's one for you Harry.I know you don't quote prices and that's not what I'm looking for, just advice.A tiling contractor asked me to do a job for him with heated floors but part of the gig is that I don't charge to mud in the heat mats.I've done this in the past as I figure it's only an hour of my time and the free install goes a long way with clients. Now I've found out this gig is 100 units, bathrooms and foyers, heat on all bathrooms and about 50 foyers. At one hour a mat, that works out to 150 hours,I can't see me doing that for nothing,is there any kind of base price for mudding in mat's.I'd hate to lose the gig but that's a lot of hours unpaid for.I don't even know how to approach him on this, thanks.

If you have already set a precident for this tile contractor on freebies then it may be tough to get them to pay now. Whether its 1 unit or 100 units, one to-day is no diferrent then doing one or two every day for two months.(in their mind) If your doing them for free thats your problem.

Add up all the free labour and materials for a year. Is this part of your company expense budget?

If you do end up charging the contractor, the price is whatever you need to charge by the hour, day or job.

Only you can determine that cost.

Hope you make out ok and don't loose your shirt.

Thanks R.C.
I'm not going into this blind, this is a new contractor and he might be just feeling me out,I'm sure we'll work something out,and like you say I'll probably do it by the hour which is what I usually do (except for the odd freebie)
