Hi
Anybody know where the best price on a Jam saw can be had? Even HD wants 300 bucks for one of those babys, and to me it's just a modified angle grinder worth about a 1/3 of what they are asking. Any ideas?

..with thanks \:\)

I think JB, TGT, and some others were discussing this a short time ago at JBS. The $300 figure sounds about the same. One comment about the cheaper saw was that it was not a very good tool.

From the "you've got to be kidding" File...I was cutting a jam with a hand saw today, and was using quite a bit of pressure as I was sawing. I didn't realize that I was almost all the way through, and when I got to the end, the pressure I was using made me fall forward, and unfortunately I threw my back out. Now I can hardly stand up. Moral of the story? Don't be so damn cheap Bri...buy a stinking Jam saw!

Hope you're gonna be OK,Bri.

I have a grinder that I use as a jambsaw.I bought a 4 1/2" Freud carbide tipped blade for it that has a maximum speed of 12,000 rpm.The arbor hole is a bit smaller than 7/8" so I used a Dremel to remove about 1/16.Only takes a few minutes to do that. The blades cost me about $50 but they last a long time.

Works just as good as a jamb saw, except that it doesn't have the adjustable guide.Although for most tiles(5/16-3/8"),resting the guard on the prepared floor while cutting the casing works well.

I recently bought a Japanese pullsaw for undercutting casings and jambs, after seeing Rob's.
Wow,this saw is awesome.Effortless cutting.Looks cool too.

Bri, you dumbass! \:D

Now you can call me a dumbass because in the past two weeks, I ran a drill bit into my left thumb AND sliced my left ring finger on a blade of my jointer.

Hi guys I hope you all pay into WComp. In London we have a new supplier called Dragona Flooring and I believe they have a location in Toronto. I seem to recall them having 3 jamb saws and either the Roberts or the Crane was about $225.
good luck
If all else fails buy a cheap biscuit joiner

I used to deal with Dragona about 16 years ago. I think they used to be and maybe still are, up around Finch and Lawrence area of Toronto.

I bought a Crain jam-cutter from them but the bearings went within a few months and I've never bothered to buy another since.

Hey Rob ... you think the sawsall will work? ;\)

Hey guys. Just registered with you!!! This may sound cheap but I get a lot of my tools at pawn shops. I have been selling and servicing tools for 12 years now and if you know what you are looking for you can grab some good deals. I picked up a Roberts Jamb Saw for under $80.00. In great shape too. Apparently the shop thought that it was a grinder!!!

I have owned 2 jamb saws the larger crain model 812 which was ok It had lots of power and was pretty stable. I used it for about 3 years. The only problem that I had with that saw was changing the blade. For some reason they thought a blade lock was not necessary to change the blade. The saw I use now is the crain 555 I really like it. Im on my 2 year with it and dont have any complaints. This one has a blade lock. Some advice I will give is use anti seize on the blade bolt on any jamb saw. What I like about the crain is its made in the usa unlike the roberts whats made in korea hmmm that should be a no brainer i'll pay the extra.
