Hi
Thin set and mesh tape...but since the denshield doesn't have tapered edges, it's easier to keep the joint flat if you tape as you do the tile. Same with Hardiboard, since it doesn't have tapered edges either. \:\)

Hi Alberta TG
Denshield has a procedure of waterproofing their product (joints and screw heads) but I'm not sure what it is. I never use it because of the gypsum core ... it just doesn't make sense to have to take so many precautions when a better installation can be achieved with a cbu or mud bed.

I agree also. The Gypsum core is garbage but yet people who sell this product say its great. HMM.

I'm so happy that I found this site as I know NOTHING about proper tiling procedures but would like to learn more.

However, I do have to stick up for my trade in regards to taping and Denseshield. In the past, we would not touch it, it doesn't look good when mudded and wears out the flusher heads. Recently, the drywall contractor that we sub to told us to tape the top angle since "the tile doesn't go all the way up sometimes". So we just do what we're told.

Maybe the government should put some money into properly training trades, especially ones where you don't need a ticket - like drywalling- so that we don't end up with huge problems in the future

Georgia Pacific specifies that DensShield is to be taped with mesh tape and a setting type compound only.

Problem is drywallers don't want to be bothered having to mix setting compound just to tape an area outside the tiled area due to the placement of tapered or butt seams.

Same goes for covering screw heads and skim coating (setting compound only)
