I have a 37 degree sloped shower ceiling covered with hardibacker. I have sheet mounted 2x2 black mosaic tile to install.
I have read that you should use epoxy thinset / grout as the thinset oozes up through joints when installing mosaics and too avoid a long cleanup before grouting. I would rather have another technique to install the tiles on the sloped ceiling, one where latex thinset could be used and then color grout applied.
1) what thinset to use for the sloped ceiling and mosaics ?
2) any particular tips to get nice results ?

Cheers

Our friend Ron suggested using one of the new Light Weight thin sets that are out now in a previous post, and I think that is a great idea. It's a bit expensive, but it really does hold the tile in place very well. Mosaic on a ceiling is a bit of a challenge, because it only takes one corner to come loose, to pull off the whole sheet. A second set of hands is a good idea...also using a grout float to rub the surface of the sheet to make sure you embed it into the thin set. Once you do that, it should stay up there without a problem. Home Depot has the light weight thin set by Custom, and RONA has a similar product by Mapie. Both unfortunately are around 50 bucks a bag. They may have smaller bags available though.

Thanks Brian. I will give the ...Lite a try for my shower ceiling and walls, and tub-surround if the 30 lbs bag will cover all this (Custom says the bag covers 100 sqft with a 1/4" notch) . I will report back on how it went.
