Could you please tell me which is the best type of tile to use on bathroom floors. We are looking at a ceramic tile that is both economical and matches our shower install. How well do these types of tiles hold up or is porcelain the way to go?

Any floor tile will work fine. You will never wear out even the cheapest tile in a residential bathroom.

There are many different types of tile. Glass, ceramic, porcilan, stone, rock. Many sizes and shapes and patterns. I always recommend a product that enhances the home and is an upgrade rather than just a floor covering that will go out of style in a couple of years. Traditionally builders-1950s to 1970s would use 4 1/4 gloss or matt and will be scratched in 10 years. If your home is 100 years old -use 1x1 hex. If ultra modern use glass. To help decide on options go to open houses (for sale) and see what others have done.Your main goal should be to enhance value. Ask a local realtor for opinions.

Thanks for the info. This tell me that I can choose a tile that matches or compliments the shower that I am installing with out worrying about the type.

I would stick to ceramic or porcelain in a shower, remember your trim tiles(bullnose, basetiles) as they are expensive. If you choose a 'through-bodied' tile, these peices can even be made by the tilesetter w/ a grinder or wetsaw and a rubbing stone. Think about stone and you're thinking expensive, but maybe some inlays of stone or glass might be a nice touch w/out costing too much.
