OK, Harry, I'll start this thread out with the following story....
A good friend (who is an estimator for a very large tile installation company here in VA) used to moonlight at HD a couple of days a week for beer money. We had a ritual where we talked each Saturday afternoon so that he could fill me in on the ridiculous stuff that went on at his store during the last week.
One day he called with his standard greeting: "Z, you're not gonna believe this one...". He was working the aisle and saw a HD employee loading up a ton of thinset onto a cart with a customer. Not seeing any tile on the cart, my friend works his way down to the vicinity of the DIY'er to try to pick up on what the deal was.
He heard the HD Professional telling the DIY'er that "SLC is really nothing more than thinset with extra water in it...just buy the cheap thinset, water it down, and get the same result."
Scary!!
