I watched a salesperson give a 3/4"x3/4" mortar spreader to a customer the other day for installing 2" mosaic. I'm not sure of the concept, but shouldn't the ceramic tile salespeople have some kind of working knowledge with ceramic tile?

Maybe the sales jerk...ah ah..clerk, \:o thought the customer was setting the 2x2's on edge. In that case it would be just about right. \:D

yea you're right been seeing alot more of that latley. Was helping a neighbor of mine recently and he went to get a trowel at the local hoe depot and they gave him a v notch to set 12x12 floor tile with. You'd think with all the videos and classes they have that the would make them so called sales folk attend or watch the movie, especially since they are giving advice on how to when they never have!

That's hilarious because I'm getting the same kind of crap from RONA or Reno-Depot here in Quebec. But on a serious side how does one amateur get to know the proper trowel size for the job?

General rule of thumb is thickness of tile size of trowel.
A lack of planning on your part dosent constitute an emergancy on mine.

COuld be worse. When I lived in south Florida, I knew one contractor who only had two notch trowels in his tools-- 1/2x1/2, and 1/2x3/4. The 1/2x1/2 only got used for one thing-- mastic walls.
