If somone wanted to tile on ceramic tiles, assuming the tiles were all sound and clean but they just wanted a quick cheap job what would you say was the way to do it???

Well, I guess it would depend on the tile...A high gloss tile would need to be roughed up a bit, to give the thin set something to bite into. I'd make sure there was room for expansion on the outside edges against the walls. Then I would skim the whole floor first with the best thin set you can find...like keralastic or similar. This would fill all the grout joints of the tile underneath, and give you a chance to level up any bad spots(there always seem to be a few). After the thin set has cured, you can knock off the trowel marks and tile as usual....it also holds a chalk line better too.

I know my advice might not be totally sound but to say you need no bonding agent when tiling onto a ceramic tile is madness.
we've all left adhesvie on a tile and then washed it off the next day, so surely the front of a ceramic tile will need some sort of bonding agent?? plzz corect me if im being thick :p

Well.....??...I'm not sure. The primer I use for Self Leveling Cement is rated interior/exterior..so I guess it would work in wet areas without disolving and breaking the bond. But I see what you mean about thin set washing off the face of a tile without much effort. I guess the primer they are talking about there is the same as the one I use(with a different name of course) I wouldn't get to worried about tiling over tile in a small bathroom or entrance in a home....now if it was Sainsburys, then I would think twice..maybe even 3 times. In the past I have used epoxy mortar to skim first...a bit expensive, but it wasn't ever going to come off again. I've used the Keralastic too without problems.

But what about him saying it needs no bonding??
Surely that cant be right??

that with with X7 which is a cement based mortar or thinset as u would say, make a slurry and coat the walls, last time i did it was over 200 sq yards of mosaic and there still there, and that was round a big pool, can you get a damper area, well maybe in the pool.
As for hanging out I will be at my Bro's rugby club this saturday.
