Was sent to start tearing out this shower today cause there was a leak that the co. that installed it couldn't fix.
What i found was that there were numerous problems with the install and it includes a cookie sheet, but more about that later.
To begin with there was no tape put on the joints, there was no preslope, the liner was cut too short at the drain and not sealed, weep holes clogged, corners not caulked or taped, not to mention the fact the tile looked awful.
So as i was tearing this abortion out i was being careful so i could try to trace down the problem (if possible)What i found was that suprisingly everything did as it was supposed to until i got to the drain, since it was cut short and there was no preslope to push the water and the holes were clogged the water was being pushed upunder the liner and out onto the subfloor and then down through the hole where the drain pipe was.
Here's the really funny part, they knbew they didn't fix the problem when they were out to fix it so what they did was to take a cookie sheet and put it in the basement under the drop ceiling where the drain was to catch the water and i guess they were hoping the water would evaporate before it overflowed, but what they did not count on i guess was the pan rusting through and leaking out throught the drop ceiling ha ha!Too funny.
But i guess as long as people do these stupid things it makes the rest of us look that much better so ithink i should be grateful for these people cause as long as they are tile setters then i have a job fixing their screw ups.Just too bad it has to be that way

have one too match it!!!!!
Just the other day I got a call to go see a shower that the owner thought the drain was a little high and she could not keep the water from running out onto the floor. Ok I will have a look. Well, this was a brand new install of a custom shower. She was right the drain was a bit too high 3/4 of an inch. the rubber membrane was on the outside of the DRYWALL. No threshhold at all, and the tiling job had 8 by 12 floor tile on the wall with a V notch trowel. Everything about this shower was wrong. Along with all of this their entire house main floor was tiled 1300 square feet. Out of square and I do not think he had a tile cutter. pretty sure he just busted them over his knee. Ha Ha. She asked me how much too fix it. First of all I only really do kurdi showers anymore. So I explained the pros and cons too her about that. All said and done I would have fixed it for her for about 2000$. She then told me that her shower and floor including the thinset cost about 2000$. So what do you say too that other than you get what you pay for
