customer noticed small hairline cracks vertical and horizontal in grout joints. ive never used Profix grout before and the sanded grout seemed very fine like silica now it can be scraped off with a butter knife 6 weeks later. too much water in the mix i doubt it but its too late for that.
So far in the removing part I ahve found that a dremel with a carbon blade works well as i have tried many options A lesson learned? not sure if the grout was at fault and will never know again!
Costly you bet! any observations or advise pls feel free to offer sympathy or advise

Well that kind of sucks doesn't it? The times I've used Profix products I was very happy with it. I hear it was started by the head chemist at Mapei..so he would know what he's doing I guess.

What kind of tile was it? It sounds like it sucked the moisture out of the grout really fast..which will zap the strength out of the grout. Do you have some details for us?

I've had similar problems but it wasn't with ProFix grout. It stayed soft ...3 times that has happened. It may have been old or defective.Since then I just don't use that brand of grout anymore.

The tile itself was a popular 12" tile called Oasis Dune it comes with a scalloped edge my spacing was a little over 3/8" It could have been very hot and humid and the tile was set on 1/2" underlay over t&g plywood; unfortunatly standard practice with new home builders. Again thanx for advice also i am attending the Shulter course to further my knowledge and help us all to stand up and say my name is Ross and Ive been there!

As a follow up to this little story I was called to the same new sub division the house next door re; grout problem{I used Flextile grout in this install and new I couldn't have a grout fault} Seems there is efflorescence on the surface from what I noticed and tested In this repair a little vinegar removed the problem and the customer said he had to buy a water softener because of extremely high mineral content in the water. I still question weather I had to remove the grout from the last repair and now have a stronger piece of the puzzle to take to the developer as he must have known about the poor mineral content in the water. live and learn thanx to this web site we learn. And yes I completed the Schluter course and it was very informative and i feel well worth my time and theirs. Thnxs Ross
