I have some serious concerns on my new house construction and could use some advise. I have 2 shower installations and 1 tub with a shower. All 3 have hardibacker for the walls with no vapor barrier. Regular drywall screws were used. Seams were not taped or sealed prior to tile. Spacing of tile is inconsistant and tiles are not lined up. Both showers are step down with a concrete slab. Rubber liner was cut back at the step. Mortar bed was applied after walls were put up. Tile around drains is cut ragged and uneven. All 3 have ceramic field tiles with a 4 x 4 slate decorative border using 1 x 2's as a frame. The 1 x 2's are crooked and the stone is not as flush as I think it should be. These stones have been removed and re-applied in all 3 due to my complaints. Grout has been applied in several stages (i.e. half a wall 1 day, a little more the next day, etc.). Builder claims I am too critcal and is trying to make me accept the job. I am concerned about the integrity of the walls since they have been re-applied without replacing the backer board and I have concerns of water getting into the unsealed corners over a period of time.
Is there a reference to which I can refer for industry standards? Can pictures be attached?

Sorry to here your having trouble with a builder's tile installation.

The unfortunate part is this can only be resolved by you and your GC(builder).

Without full details of the contract between you and the builder its impossible to mediate from this end.

Hope things work out for you.

Thanks for the advise. The TCA website is the answer. I have already emailed them to have an investigation started. They also suggested the local chapter of the Homebuilders Assoc.

That's good Mark ... I'm glad to see you take action. There's no reason in the world why anyone should have to "bite the bullet" in regard to bad workmanship.
Even if a job is up to code, it doesn't mean it qualifies as acceptable.

Let us know how you make out with all this, and feel feel to send 1 or 2 photos of the problem.
Just mail them to me at admin@ontariotile.com and I'll post them under this topic.
