Is mapei ultra flex 2 a decent product for laying slate tile onto concrete heated floor.

I've been using it for the last half a year and am pretty happy with it. It can be mixed a little runnier than most and still holds peaks nicely. For slate I usually trowel on a pretty thick layer to allow me to even out the differences in tile thickness.
