Hello,

How do I build a shower curb for the tile shower I need to rebuild before the hot mop guy comes?

DoI use pressure treated wood or std wood?

Do I stack 2x4' or is it better to use 1 piece of 4x6? (I want my curb height to be close to 6")

If I stack, do I screw the pieces together or glue/nail them?

How do I mount it on my concrete slab: do I glue it down (what adhesive do you recommend), or do I need anchors and bolts?

Thanks for your help!
Pat

Use kiln dried 2x4's screwed and glued with a good quality construction adhesive.
Go to http://www.ontariotile.com/preslope.html and you'll see how it's done.

If the mud application seems too difficult then attach cement board in a bed of thinset mortar and fastened to the 2x4's with screws. You can then tape and mud the seams.

You definitely don't want pressure treated wood. Use standard 2x4's, make sure they're straight.

Glue the bottom piece to the slab with construction adhesive rated for adhesion to concrete, then screw it in to the adjacent framing. Each succeeding piece should be screwed to the one below, as well as into the adjacent framing.

Usually three 2x4's is plenty. This would put your finished curb around 5 1/2 inches.

Anchors and bolts are probably overkill, and would make stacking them a bit difficult.

Yes, look for a stamp on the lumber that should read something like S-P-F KD-HT. The KD(kiln dried) portion of the stamp is the most important.

The answer is yes, but you should start your own thread on the topic so that everyone has an easier time keeping track of your project. Also don't forget to slope your ceiling.

A roll on product on its own is not good enough for a steam shower. You really should be using a product like Schluter Kerdi.

As Pete mentioned, it would be better if you had this in your own thread.
