My house is above ground wooden floor home, I will be cutting out the entire floor froom the bath room and would like to knopw what is the best subfloor to put back in preparation for a tile shower I would like to build.

If there is a site that would explain the process for putting a tile shower on an above ground floor that would be a very helpful link.

Thanks for any information you can give.

Kerry

3/4" plywood would be adequate, provide you are not installing natural stone on the floor. After you take out the floor, you may need to install some blocking for support in certain areas.

Here's a link for installing a shower on a wood subfloor. This will get you to a certain point, then you can come back for more info. This is assuming you are installing a shower with a PVC liner. http://www.ontariotile.com/preslope.html

If you think you might want to waterproof with Kerdi, you would start out a little differently. http://www.ontariotile.com/kerdi-shower3.html

Kerry, In addition to what Kman said, I would try for T&G plywood where it is possible to fit it in (sometimes this is hard to do in a remodel situation). A good subfloor adhesive such as PL400 is worth the extra money, as well.

Can you use Type II plywood on the floor of the shower? With a mud base on top of that. Then the water proof membrane and then another coat of mud for the tile base?
