Please refer to my subject posts and pics. I live in Woodstock Ontario. I am looking for a high quality repair if possible as compared to a complete shower rebuild. There may also be additional work replacing a bath tub in a main floor bathroom. References and previous customer contact information a must.
Please advise soonest
Thanks
Ken

Ken, in most cases, there is no way to know for sure what will have to be done until a person knows how the shower was installed. You might be able to tear out the floor and the bottom row or two of tile, install a preslope and liner, etc. and fix the job. But if I got that far and found that the walls were constructed with drywall, or mastic, or some other inferior material, I would insist on a complete tear-out. Of course, I would tell the customer up front about all this.

Hope you can find someone qualified to take care of you.

Kman, thanks for the good feedback. I do know the proper type of moisture proof material was installed on the walls (either concrete or green board). I do agree with you the job needs to be done correctly.

Concrete board and green board: two totally different animals.

Concrete board will work fine if the proper vapor barrier is used, but green board won't do you any good. If that's what you've got for wall board, I would plan on a complete tear-out. You can either do it now, or you can do it later, but you'll have to do it.

I do have access to the outside of one wall of the shower. There is a reasonably heavy mil of plastic vapour barrier present with no signs of moisture at all between the liner and the cement board. I am pretty sure it was cement board that was installed. I should mention in all of the sleuthing I have done, including taping off the drain and filling the shower base up to the level of the curb with water and checking for leaks that the floor and drain seems to be intact. I have poured water on the surface of the curbing at the door opening and it seems this is where the problem lies.
