I am thinking about ordering a 120 ft2 matt for a below grade basement room. I’m planning to install wadi board on the slab, then the heated mat, followed by ceramic tile.
The Thermosoft website has a sale that ends today, so I’m looking for anyone who’s dealt with this product before. I’ll keep you posted if I order.

Here is something I fund by looking at their web site for less then a minute
They have two wires inside the outer jacket. One is made of carbon-coated glass fiber plus a "strength" glass fiber. The other wire is not a heating wire - it is a heavier gauge wire that simply returns the voltage to complete the circuit.

I compare it to SunTouch the brand I sale and have good knowledge about their inside out product.

Both SunTouch wires are heating wires, made of oxygen-free copper. The don't make either wire out of glass fibers. In their minds this would be silly. I suspect they don't use ETFE insulation, as they don't mention it in their literature. ETFE is the best, and it costs the most, which is why many don't use it.

I will think twice before jumping on “last day sale” Don't be fooled by cheap imitations, you paid for what you get

If you still want more compression let me know and I look further in their product.

Good luck

Thanks - I ordered already, so we shall see. 50% off and free shipping was too tempting. It comes with a return policy and lifetime warranty. I'll let you know what I think of it.

I looked at the Wedi board. That will be almost 3 times the cost of hardiboard - ouch. My goal is to have a 1/4 inch underlayment and insulating barrier over the slab, then the heat and tile. Is there another alternative I should consider? This room will be my office, and I spend a lot of time in there.

Hi Paul,
Wedi will install directly to the slab with mortar only .... HardiBacker I don't believe has that advantage.
What is the purpose of the backerboard over the slab?
Give us a better idea of what you want to use and why .... and we'll better be able to throw in our advice.

Hardi board is definately not designed for use over concrete slabs. Those are specs right from James Hardie.

The goal is a warm floor for a basement 120 ft2 office that sits about 6’ below grade. The house is about 30 years old, and the slab was recently jack hammered open on the interior perimeter for a french drain system. There was a moisture problem from the cinderblock wall (exterior corner), but the slab was dry.

Since I’m heating this with electricity, I want to be as efficient as possible. I'd like to avoid heat loss to the earth below if possible. I don’t want to add too much height, so I’m looking for a 1/4 inch underlayment that will help insulate and provide a good underlayment for the tile.

Wedi board is what you need. The hard part will be finding a supplier of it in your area. It's expensive stuff. 1/4" will probably run you about $36.00 per sheet(15 sq ft).

As I suspected, their site today says this:

**FALL-END SALE EVENT!**
Act now to save 50% on floor heating mats!
Limited-Time offer expires Friday, 12/11/2009

Ten months later, sale ends in 2 days.

If you call Anthony at extension 14 he gives you an additional break if you ask for it. My customers love this product and it's easy to install. Win-Win! Make sure you mention me so I can get the referral reward they offer wink
