Hi Guys, I started my tiling today and I'm getting some nasty surface chips on my tiles. Now I borrowed a friends Tile Saw, and I'm not sure how the blade should feel, but the edge of it feels almost round. I am attaching some pics so you can see what its doing. Please help me, I was really excited to tile today, well I got Three pieces up (LOL.)

Some of those tile are prone to a little chipping, but yours seems to be excessive. Make sure your water flow is good on your blade.

More than likely the blade is worn and needs replacement. Sometimes you can run a stone against the blade and expose the diamonds on it so it'll cut better, but sometimes they're worn out, or the blade might even be warped.

Hard to tell for sure but, the blade looks worn out. Looks like less that 1/8" of diamonds over the edge, usually starts with well over 1/4" That's also one of those cheapo saws, the blade may wobble as Kevin said. And since the blade runs through the water as apposed to being pumped to the blade, more chipping will happen.

Try taking a piece to a tile shop where they have a regular saw.

While viewing your pics I also noticed some Denshield screwed to what looks like a counter. I didn't notice any plywood, nor any thin set oozing out. It that a counter?

Looks like a tub pedestal to me Jaz. Denshield is not meant to be glued down, but it is also not meant for weight bearing surfaces. the other thing wrong with that picture is that the screws have pulled through the face vinyl. The screws should slightly depress, but not go through the facing.

If the tub is installed properly then there should be no weight from the tub deck bearing directly on the DensShield.
DensShield is the same as any other tile backer, it must be set in thinset if it's on a countertop or a floor.

Thanks Randall, you said it as best as possible, I did everything as I was instructed throughout this amazing forum, I did install the DensSheild wrong the first time and countersunk the screws. I took RC's instruction and tore it all off and restarted, I used plywood, that was glued and screwed to the 2 x 4 frame, then I laid the DensSheild in Thinset and did not counter sink the screws. I then Applied Thinset over the fibreglass taped seems, and the Screw heads, and after Regarded those areas. The Tub was then installed and using thinset on the concrete attached to the floor, which does not bear any weight on the deck itself. After the thinset dried I spray foamed any gaps between the tubs rail's or feet, and the floor (Overkill - Maybe, but just in case)

P.S. I appologize Randall, I will keep them all in this forum from now on.

Ok, so Ive got a different tile saw and the tiles are still chipping, but not as bad is there any way to maybe cut the tiles a hair longer and then sand the chipped part off.

are you sure you are getting lots of water on the blade? I have never seen tile chip as much as your picture. There may be issues with the glaze. You can bevel the edge of the tile with a coarse sharpening stone, or a diamond polishing pad.
