I have just opened the box with a stelpro cable heat system and the first sheet I get is a warning to use a 1000v megohmeter to test the insulation. My multimeter only goes to 40M. Does anyone have experience with this test, is my meter good enough, the warning sheet says the validity of the test would be inconclusive. I called the supplier (an electrical supply outlet) and they didn't have one in stock (hadn't heard of it) and I called a local rental shop, same result. I was hoping to get the floor and toilet installed this weekend (scratch that)

I will be using Stelpro for baseboard heaters and I did look at using their cable system as well. Two things that turned me off Stelpro:

- required megging the insulation
- confusion - they have 3 different types of cable

I've looked at a number of cable systems and Stelpro was the only one that required a megger. All others require only a simple multimeter continuity test (open circuit) between the ground wire and the two power leads to test the insulation.

So I went with Nuheat. Have you talked to Stelpro's tech support?
