Hi!

Not sure this is the correct forum, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Let me start that I have never done this, so I know nothing that goes into such a project.

The size of the shower is 98" H x 37.5" D x 33.5W

Currently there is one of those fiberglass stalls and I have no idea what is under it.

I would like to replace this all with tile and add a Basco Showers Celesta 900 swing door.

Currently the shower area is amazingly restrictive.

Have not gotten a pro to quote and believe I can possibly handle it.

Any thoughts, advice, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in LA, so if you know places that are cheaper than Lowes or Home Depot, please share. Thanks!

The stall probably stops a foot or so from the ceiling, I'm guessing?

Cut the drywall about an inch or two above the fiberglass (there's a lip behind the drywall that you can't see) and down the sides. You'll have to use a reciprocating saw to cut the shower into three sections, but be careful: sometimes the plumbers change the valve to the side of the shower opposite where the plumbing comes out of the floor, and they may have run the pipes in the void between the fiberglass floor and the subfloor. Found that out for myself, luckily I didn't cut a water line.

The shower should come out pretty easily after it's cut away, although you might have to remove a few screws. Once you get that far, we can give you more advice about where to go from there.

Don't underestimate the time and effort that may be needed to get the job done. If you have to work full time, then it becomes a night and weekend project. Mine is coming up on a year for the bathroom, not just the shower. I'm sure you've seem my thread posted here .
