Denshield is a good product. I use it all the time. It will be fine with the Kerdi over top of it, as Jaz has said and I recommended earlier. Again, just make sure it's attached to the Denshield really well.

The other horizintal joints around the outer sections of the bathroom will be fine as they are. You can prime them if it will make you feel better, but is not necessary for your tile installation.

Keep in mind, redundancy can be good in some cases, but remember that every extra step that you take is one more stage where failure may occur. Do a good job, but don't over do it.

Hi Steve,

You had me worried you'd abandoned the use of Kerdi in the shower cuz in your recent post you said;

"In all cases, the tile will be installed to Denshield with latex modified thinset."

To me that meant no Kerdi since they want unmodified thin set when installing Kerdi. OK, you're cool again. cool

Concerning those seams with drywall compound, why not just apply a coat of primer/sealer to all the walls that will eventually require it stopping with these seams? That will seal and give you a good surface for the modified mortar. Be sure the primer has cured before you attempt the install though. This way the priming will be done so all that is left after the tile installation is the final coats of paint.

Thanks for the update of the floor situation. I'm sure you know what to do to fix the bounce. Apparently the beam is not in full contact with all of the joists.

Jaz

Thank you both (J&D Tile and Jaz) for your help!

Since the greenboard has to be primed anyway, I'll do the seams too. I just wasn't sure how to handle that.

As soon as I can get my bathroom floor in a solid state (more shims, adhesive, screws, blocking, etc.), I plan to finish the steam shower then work on the main floor and walls.

Question:

Do you have any experience in working with Schluter Profile edging? I'm thinking of using their Dilex-EKE for my main floor to wall (12x24 marble tile) transition as it appears to be a better solution to simply caulking that area. Could/should this be something to consider for use in the steam shower too?

I'm sure as I progress, there'll be more questions, but for now thanks again!

Steve,

Be careful when using shims so not to make new humps, it's easy to do.

I've never used the profiles you mentioned to finish inside corners of an installation. They may help with eliminating movement cracks, but you should consider whether they add to the esthetics of natural stone or take from it. I think I would skip here.

I agree with Jaz about the Schluter. You want to see your stone, not your trim.
