Hi,

Has anyone had experience with using urethane grout for tiles or glass blocks? I plan to install a walk-in glass block shower with glass blocks on 1 wall & tiles over the Wedi backerboards on the other 3 walls & shower pan. Urethane grout is recommended to me, and it sounds really good from my reading, but I don't personally know of anyone who uses urethane grout & whether it works as well as the manufacture claims. Thanks.

Sorry, I don't have any personal experience using that product.

I have heard that some people have had problems with the product but that could be installer error.
Supposedly the premixed urethane grout is as easy to apply as a cement based grout and gives you the stain protection of an epoxy with out the clean up hassles. At least that's how the rep explained it. They didn't do any demo, just new product info so I really can't say if their claims are true.

Have you done a Google search on the product?

Which manufactures product are you thinking of using?

Hi Randall,

Thanks for your reply. I'm thinking of using QuartzLock2 Grout by StarQuartz (http://www.starquartz.com/grout.html), which is the 2nd generation of quartz-based urethane grout. Yes, I've done a google search on this product, but have not been able to find any user reviews. I have heard that urethane grout requires a long cure time, so there may be installation error if one doesn't wait long enough. Anyway, I only have the manufacture's claims that it is a great pre-mixed urethane grout product that's easy to use, doesn't require sealing, and has "unmatched stain resistance, ultimate color consistency, crack resistant flexibility, mold/mildew protection and UV stability." Sounds perfect for use in a tile + glass block shower, but I would like to hear some
actual success stories with this grout. Anyone?

Eliza ,

The installation of the urethane grout is pretty easy . The most important is to use almost no water -- damp sponge -- for cleaning and to let it cure for 7 days. Do not over wash it . Protection from water of the grout is important for 7 days. Also , it is pricy .
It will make a big difference in glass tiles installation when using the StarGlass grout.
