Okay so yesterday I put down the first layer of the mortar pan. I finished at about supper time. Should I wait a full 24 hours before putting down the membrane and next layer? About the membrane and adhesive. I've got the x-15 bonding adhesive and the guy at home depot said I have to glue the entire membrane to the mortar pan. Is that right? On the can, it reads like it is just for glueing the seams. Also, is this the same adhesive to use to glue the membrane to the bottom drain flange?
Thanks

Yes, wait 24 hrs before installing the liner. No, you do not glue the liner to the pan mortar. The glue is only for seaming the liner. Go to this tutorial for the proper way to make your drain connection. http://www.ontariotile.com/preslope.html

Hey, thanks. Ya that is the tutorial I've been following but it doesn't actually address those things. Another question too, how long should I wait before water testing the liner?
Thanks.

Sure it does Wraun, it shows and explains how the liner is siliconed to the clamp drain and how to cut the liner for the weep holes.
If you're referring to the "gluing the liner to the mortar bed" not showing up in the tutorial, then you would be correct, because you don't do that. There's also no discussion about flooding the pan because that's up to the discretion of the installer. You only do for piece of mind or at an inspectors request.
You will need to wait 24 hrs for the silicone to dry before flooding the pan. The glue for the liner seams(if any)should be set in about an hour or two.

Ya I was mainly referring to the gluing of the liner because I wanted to make sure. Those dopes at Home Depot and the like are pretty clueless. Thanks for the replies, I do appreciate the advice. And also, I will flood the pan for the piece of mind.

So my mortar bed and curb are complete and look not too shabby, me thinks. Now I have a bucket of Redguard that I bought for the DensShield seams and nails but should I also use it to seal the mortar pan? Btw, I did flood the pan and it passed. yay! Edit: One other question, how long should I wait before tiling, or sealing the mortar with redguard? Thanks, Ron

RedGard is fine for the DensShield screws and seams, but do not use it on the shower pan surface. This is due to the fact that you have a pan liner with a clamp style drain. You could coat the curb area.
Allow any thinset used for the mesh tape seams and corners on the DensShield to dry 24 hrs before any application of RedGard.
Once the waterproofing is dry you can start tiling.

Alright, we're getting there. Should be tiling by tomorrow then. Thanks again for all your advice.

lol, what a life. Truck broke down and I still haven't got started on the tiling because I'm too busy trying to track down a damned wiring problem. And of course with the return of spring, Murphy must have come out of hibernation because we're having to show the house and now have an offer as well. Damn I gotta get this shower done!

Well we're finally done. Well almost anyway. Just have to put the sealer on. It turned out pretty spanky. I want to thank you again for your advice. Also, I am glad that we went with real tile. What I mean is, even if the flex rock were made for this type of an application, it would never look as good. And actually, the day we decided to do this, we bought a prefab shower stall and brought it home but then realized that it wouldn't do the house justice so took it back. During the shower construction, I was half regretting having taken it back but kept telling myself that in the end, it'll be worth it and I was right. (just like I always am when I argue with myself) Thanks again, Ron
