Hi all,
I have a question for the pros. I have fully latched on to the Schluter systems as I thinks it's a great design intent.

I am currently working on my shower system and have the KERDI up and in place with the shower pan and bonding flange in place also. I have used the requested unmodified thin-set (Mapei's Kerabond) to adhere the Kerdi.

My desired tile is 2"X4" WHITE matte glass tile (similar to a beach glass finish.) The glass tile vendor is Caledonia.

Reading the Schluter instructions I see that you have to consult Schluter for the installation of glass tile.

Outside of Mapei, the tile vendor and Schluter, any advice on the adhesion of the tile to the kerdi would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

The problem with glass installations has to do with the substrate that the glass is installed to. Glass is very unforgiving and the slightest movement which causes cracks in the substrate will transfer through to the glass. An anti-fracture membrane in most cases will stop this from happening.
Most glass tile manufacturers require an anti-fracture membrane under the glass. Schluter Kerdi is not an anti-fracture membrane.
Membranes come in sheet or liquid form and are specifically classified as anti-fracture membranes.

This is usually more of a problem with glass that's over 2 sq. inches.

The other problem is that certain glass tiles are not compatible with these membranes. You should first contact the glass manufacturer for installation specifications and then contact Schluter for their clarification. If you want then to warranty anything you need to call them.

There are also glass specific thinsets for installing the glass. The glass manufacturers usually specify which type to use.

I have never installed glass over Schluter because it's not acceptable, so I can't help with that answer.
I personally use a liquid anti-fracture membrane when required.
