hello all

This is my first post eek

I am looking to finish my basement. The first project will be finish a bedroom. The bedroom has one external wall, one wall shared with cold cellar' one with internal wall and finally one shared with proposed bathroom.

The external walls are unsulated and have poly membrane.

The bathroom has one external wall, 3 internal walls (1 with bedroom).

I want to finish the bedroom but i want to make sure that i use the right material for the shared bathroom wall. Are there any do's and don'ts for this wall. E.g. Do i need special insulation for this wall.

The shower will be on the other side of this wall. Does this matter?

Also in the bathroom do i need poly memvrane on the other internal walls or is it just needed for external walls

Thanks

Jo

Insulation for an interior wall is not required unless you want a little bit of soundproofing. If that's the case, then any type of bat style insulation will work.
It really does not matter that this backs on to the shower, however if you are worried about potential moisture then upgrade the insulation to Roxul.

You should only be using poly on exterior walls.
Depending on your choice of materials for the shower construction a poly covering may be required for those walls. IE: cement backer board with no topical waterproofing.

We can elaborate on that if your not clear on the construction methods for showers.
