Hello all. I have recently decided to remove my bathtub and install a custom shower stall in the guest bathroom. The changes include dual-shower heads, fold down seat (for shaving legs, rest stop for nursing hang-overs, etc.) and tile completely surrounding stall (walls, ceiling and floor).

I would like to run my understanding of the proper installation procedure past all who'll listen:
1)Run new line around shower for second shower head
2)Install shower pan, tar paper (15 - 3layers), hot mop
3)Install vapor barrier, i.e., plastic sheeting completely around shower area and overlap tar paper
4)Install cement backer board
5)Tile, grout and seal

Please let me know if my understanding is enough to complete the job or just enough to get me into trouble. Any help is appreciated (details I missed are golden) and thanks in advance.

Hi
You might want to come up with a better idea than the hot mopping for the shower pan. There are better choices than that(are you in California?)..here a links to Harrys instructions on the best way to do a shower pan.

If you check the home page, you will see other instructional material there for you to read.

Hi, Bri.

Thanks for your response. First off - yes, I am in California. Will that change my approach? Second, I have done more research and it appears 'hot mopping' is antiquated. Does 40 mm PVC sound right for a pan? And a 6 or 8 mil poly for a barrier? Thank you for your time.

Hi
I just assumed you were in California because no one ever mentions hot mopping unless they are from there. \:\) ...and yes to your other questions..they will do the job for you. \:D
