I wanted to seal the grout (MAPEI KER 200 Polymer modified grout) in my family room using Sealer's Choice 15 Gold. According to the Aquamix website this product is available at Centura (I'm in Windsor), however the Centura website states sealer is not required for epoxy or polymer modified grouts. I need some direction from the experts here whom I've come to trust. Should I seal this grout and will this help prevent staining? Thanks again.

Hi
Centura has a website? ;\) Just Kidding. Epoxy grout no...you don't need sealer. Modified grout YES.(did they really say no?...I wonder why they sell sealer then! geesh!) The sealers choice 15 is great stuff. It will keep stains from soaking into the joints..giving you time to clean up. Without it, it would soak in and be stained. One of those grout applicator bottle/brushs that you can get at Home Depot works great. It costs $10..but saves lots of time. Too bad you can't get the sealers choice anywhere but Centura...their prices are just stupid. Maybe check out the price in Detroit? The stuff does go along way..a small bottle is all you need.

Thanks Bri. The price of the Sealers Choice 15 at HD in Detroit is $31.79 US per quart. Is that cheaper than at Centura? I hope to seal my grout this weekend. Here is what appears on the Centura website "Glazed Tile - Sealer or floor finish is not required on this type of tile with epoxy or polymer modified grouts. Portland cement grouts may require a sealer. Follow manufacturer's recommended procedures to apply sealer to portland cement grouted glazed tile floors."

Hi
It looks like they were talking about the tile, not the grout in that first paragraph..it does say sealer is needed on portland cement grouts(which is the same as a modified grout..they all have portland in them). Centura has a outlet in Windsor...best to check the price there too. A quart will last you forever.

Centura in Windsor was out of stock and the Home Depot in Detroit that I visited did not have it in stock either. I ended up buying Tilelab Surfacegard with Teflon. It was about the same price as Aquamix Sealers Choice approx $30.00/quart US. The Tilelab product has a 20 year guarantee but I'd be happy to get 10 years out of it. Home Depot in Detroit sells an application bottle that has a wheel on the tip so you just roll it over the grout lines while squeezing the bottle. This was a really easy and fast way to apply the sealer.

Hi
That's pretty good sealer too.(the green bottle)..so you are in good hands. You may want to re-apply every few years....as you've already found out...you have lot's left. Might as well use it. ;\)
