This will be my first backsplash installation and I have a design formatted and I want to frame the entire tiled area (under the cupboards, on the top of the counters and behind the stove) with a chrome metal edge. I have the framework cut with mitres and ready to install.

What would be the proper way to put the edge against the countertops? Should they be siliconed? The counter tops are laminate. I was going to use thinset to set the rest.

Thinset mortar should be used for trim and tile.

Thanks Harry. The reason I asked...I was watching a well known TV show and there was tile being used around a fireplace. When the metal edge was being put on, the installer had a caulking gun, had applied a bead, then set it.

Obviously, a FP is different from a countertop, but I wondered if it was a generally accepted practice or a special application for the heat.
