New information about installing Ditra with the new lite weight mortars. TEC says not to mix them "more fluid". This will compromise their bond strength. You must mix according to the directions which is a dryer mix.

Why would anyone need to use one of those super expensive types of mortar to install Ditra? If I remember correctly Tec's 3N1 costs about $110, sells for about $140 for a 35 lb. bag. Using a lite weight mortar for Ditra is out of the question and useless.

I would bet the reason for the failures is because the areas are small. Schluter says that you can tile immediatley after setting the ditra but what they don't say is that you shouldn't be walking over the same area constantly all day. The ditra will eventually lose its bond then the floor is loose. I've had it happen twice, Now I tile the next day or as Ron sugests, for smalller areas use a rapidset.
