Hello all. Isn't this great! I can ask questions without getting that "are you serious?!?!" look!
Here goes. I am installing a neo-angle shower in the downstairs bath. I bought a shower kit with a base, walls, doors, ect. I was told the walls are "waterproof wallpaper" and that if I planned on keeping the house that I should tile instead. OK? So I have put up aqua board which I will waterproof with Kerdi, then am going to install the base using a mortar bed (not sure how to do this yet). Then I will tile! I am assuming the shower base flange will NOT be flush with the wall, so how should I tile? Should I silicone the flange then start the first course of tile above? Doesn't sound too waterproof to me. Comments/suggestions PLEASE!

I'm confused You said you bought a complete shower package. Are we talking about a complete fiberglass or acrylic shower unit? If so then there's no need for waterproofing or tile.

I had to buy a multipiece shower, so the walls are separate from the base and doors. I have been told that the walls are not sturdy enought for long tern use. So, unless I want leakage/mould/damage, I should throw out the walls and tile instead. Based on the quality of the walls, I do believe they are just waterproof wallpaper.

Hi
You should put the shower base in place, and run a pencil mark around the walls along the flange. Then you can cut out the wallboard along this line, and recess the shower base so that the flange in flush with the rest of the walls. Then all you have to do it put a strip of the kerdi along the bottom, overlapping the flange. You can caulk the overhang to the flange. It will all be covered with the tile anyway, and no water can get past it now. Is that what you meant, or am I getting that "are you serious" look now? \:D

Perfect! That is a great suggestion. Should I shim (or ???) between the 2X4 and the base where the wallboard is missing?

Does you basin not have some sort of clip that attaches the basin to the studs? Though, even if it doesn't..once you put the mortar under it, and attach the drain it shouldn't move anymore.
