Let's see...hmmm....I don't really understand the question. What do you mean by hardiboard on the shower floor?...as in, inside the shower?

Do all the framing first.

What type of shower pan are you doing or are you using an acrylic shower base?

OK i'm the hubby (Tommy)

We have new construction (an addition), with subfloor and four walls for the room itself.

We want to build our own tile shower with no plastic shower pans.

We want a corner shower with 5'6" (approx)walls, there will be one small curb under the door.

I think we should build the walls > then proceed with the steps provided in Harry Dunbars marble tile renovation for the floor, ie: mortar, liner etc...

Chris thinks we should put hardibacker over the entire bathroom floor and then build our walls.

I have a fair amount of construction background but no tile work is in it.

Chris has done our tile work in our remodel of our old bath and our firplace surround.

Any and all advice is appreciated

As I said before, all construction framing is done first.

All floor underlayments are done after the framing.

Do the shower pan construction as per Harry's guidelines.

Frame shower, follow Harry's guidlines for inside the shower, install backer board on bathroom floor after the curb is installed so that the backer board butts up tight to the curb outside of the shower.Your shower should be considered as a separate unit from the bathroom floor.Hope I helped in any way ;\)
