I'm a newbie to tiel setting my experience consists of having taken a class at the local technical school and would like to have an opinion on two products I have seen. One is called Easymat which is an underlayment for ceramic tile. This product is intended for use in place of the cement board one might use. It has an adhesive back which is a peel and stick. then your thinset is spread directly onto this underlay. also the other product is Redguard this is a paint on waterproofing and according to the flooring supply store I got it from it can be used in showers with a mortar base in place of a waterproof membrane. Has anyone used these products and what success have you had? you can check out their website at www.custombuildingproducts.com I will be building a mortar shower in place of an old shower that I removed. thank-you

Hi Doug
I'm just on my way out the door to work but will be back later to find out more about your shower project.
RedGArd is a good product ... but how you use it depends on the construction of your shower.
EasyMat is something I've never used, but the whole idea of a peel and stick system for ceramic tile doesn't seem very adequate.

Hi Doug

Like Harry said, we'd need more info on your shower project to give you advice about Redgard. It's a good product, but it won't do miracles.

Now, the Peel and Stick Easymat is just terrible stuff. My one and only experience with it was not good. It's almost impossible to get the stuff to unroll and lay flat. In fact, I had to staple it down to keep it from curling. There is a non peel and stick version, that other guys have had good luck with, but I don't think it's available in Canada yet.
