Hi, Another newbi here. I will soon be installing a new shower using a cast acrylic Maxx Pearl base 36X60. The walls will be 1/2 inch Hardibacker with 6 inch ceramic tiles. I was considering using the Kerdi membrane on the walls. I recently saw some jobs that used Red Guard on the walls instead of the membrane. Can I expect good results with the RedGuard? If the Red Guard is OK what would be the best way to seal the inside corners. I'm assuming that thinset and mesh. My last question is that I have one outside cold insulated wall. My understanding is that if I use either the Red Guard or the Kerdi that I should not use a plastic or tar paper vapor barrier even on that outside wall. Is that correct? Thanks in advance for the help. It will be appreciated. Steve

I've used Redgard many times and had good luck with it. Use two coats, minimum, three is even better; mesh in the corners. You don't need the vapor barrier, redgard is the barrier.
