Extra buck a foot for doing epoxy. Now, find a spot at your house that needs some tile...do it, and then grout it...with epoxy. Nothing like first hand experience before tackling 1400 sq ft.

Hi Randy Scary amount of tile for first shot at epoxy grout.I used Mapei's epoxy once and didn't like it.It was like toothpaste...found it impossible to tool and to get it to stay flush.Apparently that was the old version. The one I like best is Laticrete's SP 100.Costs me about $75 a unit which would probably grout 150 sq.ft of 12" tile with 3/16" joint.Going to be expensive. You'll need lots of sponges...and more tips before you take on this one.

Thanks Guys.......ya, I'm a little worried. Definetly gonna take Brians advice though and practice. I've never even seen the stuff in use. Have you guys used Tec before? I can use that too if I wanted. Not that it would matter, I'm sure I'm heading down a road to sorryville. Guess I'll buy a couple small units and play around, I'm sure I'll have more questions once I get a feel for it. Thanks Guys!

Hi Tec is good, though it leaves a shiny film on the tile(no choice here)..and it does turn Yellowish after a few years. Mapie has changed it's formula...it much better now,and can be cleaned with cold water..though the hotter you have the clean up water, the longer the sponges last. Haven't tried the Spectra-lock stuff everyone is raving about, but I hear it's good.(PM RobZ...he's an expert now) Don't even think about Flextile epoxy...worst crap I've ever used..a nightmare. Chembond has one that ain't bad....I think it's Mapie in a different pail. Also, the stuff from Quebec..PRO Fix or something like that, worked alright too.

Randy, Found myself in the same position and talked the owner into Spectralock. It's a 2 part epoxy that cleans up with water and doesn't have a long learning curve. I grouted 11 units, about 800 sft with no problems. Hope this isn't too late. Chas

Maybe I'm the only one that found SpectraLock more difficult to use than Laticrete's other epoxy grout,SP-100.I will only use the SP-100,it has a longer open time and cleans up easily. And...again,in keeping with my Dutch heritage;it is cheaper. Doesn't have the option of adding the sparklies though.

Hi Jeff Are you referring to using fiberglass to form a shower pan liner? If so, the only thing I know about those is what I have read at our friend John Bridge's Forum (www.johnbridge.com). Apparently, these types of pan liners are quite common in Texas, and John reports that they are susceptible to cracking with the inevitable movements that a house experiences. If this is not what your were thinking about, let me know.
