The shower door is going approx where the square is lying on the floor. It will attach to the wall and there will be glass blocks on the corner and up 72" (open at the top)

How come I'm the only one around here who doesn't know how to post a picture? \:\)

That looks pretty good so far. Are they cedar 2x4's? Where's the drain? And is that gypcrete or concrete?

LOL...you teach me this, Ill teach you that, ok Bri? \:\) Weeeelll...he used regular 2*4 studs. Three nailed together. Wrong huh? They are doug fir I think. Anyway, the floor has no drain yet, he will be sticking some plumbing in there this weekend I think. The floor actually is pressboard  ...I know...But I have purchased some hardibacker to go over that. Is that ok? This man is just bound and determined to use things like pressboard and strandboard whether I like it or not. Lemme have some input...k?
Oh..BTW...you have to store you pics to a URL in order to post here. I use fototime, but there are lots of them that dont charge and you can use that space, too. Try it! Its fun and we wanna SEE your work!

Pressboard?..does it look like compressed sawdust?

The 2x4's are fine...they just look red in the picture.

That pressboard has me concerned. IF it is, I'd waterproof the whole thing with Redgard, before the preslope and liner. A little moisture and that stuff swells up big time. \:\(

Bri is right, pressboard is a no-no. Your idea of installing hardibacker over top certainly can't hurt, but I like Bri's idea of waterproofing the existing floor if it's a type of pressboard. It's probably Oriented Strand Board (OSB)which is ok.
The reason I'd leave out the Hardibacker is because it will allow you to build a thicker mortar bed. It's the mortar bed which will be the strength of your floor.

Drat ...I tried my BEST to argue him out of the pressboard. Its actually "subflooring." You know...the 3/8" stuff that you put down as a prefloor when you are doing wood or carpet flooring? You know the stuff....I will have a discussion with him. He used it over the top of OSB which was the layer that went over the joists. Should we take it up then and replace it with something else?? Plywood??? What then?? ................OK, editing this post:
We have decided to leave it, but use the Redgard or Laticrete FWW to go over it. Now, should we use the mesh on that too? I was considering tiling up the walls about 3 feet and putting me designer tiles as trim on the top of it like a chair rail, and continuing that same trim around the room, shower and top of tub area. Ill have to mesh it where the floor meets the wall I guess and in all the corners from what I gather, right? hmmmm

Ok ... I know what it is and it's fine. There's no need to waterproof but if you do it's surely not going to hurt.

You need to build a pre-sloped mortar bed before you install the liner and drain. Over top the liner is another mortar bed then the tiles.

Check these photos.

Hey Harry...??
You know that photo where you blocked the drain weepholes with tile spacers? I just had an AHA moment that tells me you are supposed to mud OVER them. Is that right?? Geez...I couldnt figure out how you were going to keep the mud out after you removed the spacers. DUH. hee hee... \:D Thanks for those pics. Seems I learn something new every time I study them. I think Im almost brave now.
